How to Shave Sensitive Skin

1. Soften Hair with Warm Water

Shower before shaving for the best results. Warm water helps hair stand up, opens pores, softens hair, and allows razor to glide smoothly. Important step for calm, bump-free skin.

2. Exfoliate

Exfoliate before you shave to prevent razor bumps and ingrown hairs. This removes dead skin cells that can clog razors and cause painful bumps and ingrown hairs.

For a smooth shave without irritation, your razor must be in peak condition. Razors are less effective when clogged with dirt and dead skin cells. Dull blades result from clogging with dead cells, leading to dragging, friction, and irritation.

3. Lather Up

Consider shaving cream or butter as a protective barrier between your skin and razor. When gliding over dry skin, increased friction leads to rashes and bumps. However, with a cushioning layer between skin and razor, friction is reduced, resulting in a smoother, closer shave.

4. Use a Multi-Bladed Razor

Single blade razors increase friction. Shaving with multi-blade razors provides a smoother shave with fewer passes. It decreases the force needed during shaving, reducing friction and skin irritation.

Avoid multiple passes over the same area to reduce redness and bumps from increased friction. Use a razor with five blades for a seamless one-stroke cut to minimize risk of irritation.

5. Use a Razor with Gel Bars

Gel bars on razors benefit sensitive skin with extra lubrication and moisturization, aiding smooth razor glide and reducing irritation. Select razors with gel bars containing aloe vera or vitamin E for enhanced protection.

6. Follow the Grain

Always shave in the direction of hair growth. Shaving with the grain is crucial for sensitive skin shaving methods as shaving against the grain raises the risk of cuts and bumps.

7. Rinse Your Razor Between Strokes

Hair buildup in your razor causes dull blades and reduces shave effectiveness. Razors perform poorly when clogged with hair and shaving butter. To avoid this, rinse your razor after each stroke for a clean, sharp tool.

8. Apply an After Shave Oil

Skin is particularly sensitive post-shave. Rinse off shaving cream, pat skin dry, and apply an after shave oil or serum with soothing, cooling, antimicrobial ingredients to nourish skin and prevent razor bumps and ingrowns.

9. Don't Forget to Moisturize

Complete your shaving routine with a mild hydrating moisturizer to preserve lost moisture and soften skin while establishing a protective barrier to maintain its softness and nourishment.
